I began operating R2-D2 for Lucasfilm in 1987, having built my own radio-controlled version when the first film debuted in 1977. When the prequels began production, one of my first assignments on Episode I was working on the team that built the puppet C-3PO. Shortly after its completion, I led a team to create a new R/C R2-D2 and operated it for main unit filming in London. For Episodes II and III in Sydney, I was promoted to Droid Unit Supervisor, overseeing all physical robots and effects, and looking after Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.
